R7 Solutions Develops GIS Application for Harvard Nuclear Terrorism Expert
Posted in Client News, Incident Mangement
HOUSTON, TX, November, 2004 – R7 Solutions announced the launch of a public geographic information system (GIS) application today in support of Dr. Graham Allison’s new book, Nuclear Terrorism: The Ultimate Preventable Catastrophe. One of the foremost experts on the subject of nuclear terrorism, Dr. Allison is a founding dean of Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, a former top Pentagon official, and one of America’s leading scholars of nuclear strategy and national security.
In the book, Dr. Allison makes the case that nuclear terrorism is inevitable if the US continues on its present course, and sets out a plan for preventing an attack before it occurs.
The application, part of the book’s web site at www.NuclearTerror.org, allows users to see, at a glance, the area effects of a ten kiloton nuclear blast. When users enter a zip code into the website, a color-coded blast map is super-imposed over a street map of the area.
“Our major focus at R7 is to bring geographic information systems to front-line decision makers, and this application certainly achieves that goal,” said K. Lawrence Epperson, CEO of R7 Solutions.”By allowing the public to interactively explore important policy issues for themselves, this application serves Dr. Allison as an important and provocative educational and advocacy tool.”
R7 Solutions, a Houston-based GIS and enterprise software consulting firm, hosts and maintains the web site and application for Dr. Allison and the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the John F. Kennedy School of Government.
