Online Services Move to SQL Server 2008 with Native Spatial Functions

R7 Solutions announced today that it has deployed Microsoft’s new SQL Server 2008 “Katmai” for use in building high-performance geospatial databases and queries to support its online suite of Web 2.0 products, including ParcelExplorer.com, PetroExplorer.com and GeoIntelis.

“SQL Server 2008 has been a long time in coming, but now that it is here, it delivers everything that we were eagerly anticipating,” said K. Lawrence Epperson, CEO of R7 Solutions.

“By moving as many of our geospatial data tables as possible directly into SQL Server, and especially by using the built-in geospatial functions and LINQ to manage all of our queries, we’re seeing dramatic improvements in performance and at least an order of magnitude improvement in manageability. Being able to manage all of the queries that go into building a complex online service directly from Visual Studio is amazing,” said Epperson.
