Posted in Company News
HOUSTON, TX, March 2, 2002 – R7 Solutions presented a technical seminar on GIS and wireless technology integration today at the 2002 ESRI Petroleum Users’ Group (PUG) Conference and Vendor Faire held in Houston, Texas.
The seminar highlighted the company’s Lightweight Distributed Framework (LDF) application development environment and covered a variety of practical energy industry uses for handheld GIS technologies. Responding to an invitation from the PUG steering committee, R7’s Vice President for Research and Development Alex Bain and Senior Engineer Bryan Hassin presented information on handheld operating systems, development environments, and connectivity solutions.
The seminar covered the industry-leading ESRI ArcPad 6.0 for the Microsoft Pocket PC operating system, as well as integration with back-end geographical information systems (GIS) via ESRI’s ArcIMS server.
Live energy industry application demonstrations were made, including R7 Solutions’ oil spill response application, written using LDF and presented on a Compaq iPaq and HP Jornada running Microsoft Pocket PC, as well as on a Hitachi ePlate running Windows CE 2.0. The development of this application was discussed, as well as future development features expected in upcoming releases of ArcPad and ArcIMS.
The ArcPad and ArcIMS development environments, software development kits and application program interfaces were reviewed, and emerging development stardards and useful third-party products were introduced. The full audio and visual presentation is available by request from R7 Solutions on CDROM.
